Well, it’s been a long hot summer in Whistler and we’ve been making the most of it! For the young people currently taking part in the Work 2 Live program, it’s been a once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy the amazing outdoor activities Whistler has to offer. Read on to find out what they loved the most and who’s been helping us have such a successful summer.

Making the most of the outdoors….

Summer in Whistler provides endless opportunities for the participants in our programs to embrace the physical and mental benefits of being outside in the mountains. It’s great to see them developing new skills and interests as the summer goes on. We asked a couple of the guys what their highlights were:

Dakota loved “learning how to mountain bike. I found a new passion that I’ll end up pursuing next year when the bike park opens up once again! Have to get sendy!”

Stefan, on the other hand, is enjoying hiking in the beautiful BC rainforest: “It’s fun to trek deep in the forest and forge your own path back to civilization”.  We know exactly how that feels!

…and working hard too

It hasn’t all been fun and games though. All the participants are working full time in their various jobs at Whistler Blackcomb. They also came out to support the biggest event of the summer, volunteering at Crankworx. After a summer learning to mountain bike on our weekly Ride Days, it was cool to see the best of the best competing right here in Whistler.

Finally, we’re so proud to say that two of our young people will be graduating in October. They’re both planning to stay in Whistler to live and work. And then we’ll be welcoming new faces to the Zero Ceiling family. We’re currently accepting applications to the program – find out more about how to apply. We know they’ll be welcomed by the participants moving into their second term, and by all the Zero Ceiling graduates who are still here in Whistler.

Great support from our Sea to Sky community for Work 2 Live

None of this could happen without help from the awesome Sea to Sky community. So here’s a big shout out to everyone who’s helped up out this summer! As well as the ongoing support we receive from Whistler Blackcomb, and The Adventure Group, this summer we’ve been lucky to have support from Coastal Culture to fix our bikes, a financial planning session from Squamish Savings and our weekly Family Dinners sponsored by the Jill Ackhurst Social Action Fund and Nesters Market Whistler.

We’re always so grateful for the time, money and effort put in to help our young people build independent lives. If you’d like to get involved, drop us a line at info[at]zeroceiling.org, we’d love to hear from you!

As summer turns to fall and we all start watching the skies for the first snowfall, keep up with what’s going on at Zero Ceiling on Instagram. And keep an eye out for updates on our exciting 20th Anniversary celebrations!
